My Morning & Evening Routines PLUS My Routine Essentials!

My Morning and Evening Routines (PLUS My Routine Essentials!)

Since I shared some ideas on developing your own Morning and Evening Routines yesterday, I thought it would be nice to share my personal routines with you, including some essential items that play an important role in keeping me in line on a daily basis. If you recall from yesterday, I believe it’s important for you to define a routine that works for you personally, and I hope yesterday’s post has given you some clarity. It always helps, however, to see examples from others, which is what I intend to do for you today. Without further ado, here are my routines!

Morning Routine

{7:30 am} Wake Up and Stretch: I normally wake up without an alarm at around 7:30 am as my husband is getting ready for work. When I wake up, I like to stretch a bit before I get out of bed and may reach for my phone to check messages and the news as well.

{7:40 am} Drink Water: I keep a tumbler of water next to my bed and will start sipping on it when I wake up, usually before I even get out of bed. I am always thirsty and so getting hydrated immediately is a big priority for me.

{7:45 am} Turn on Meditation or Sound machine App: As I get out of bed in the morning, I like to put on either a guided meditation or sound machine app to help me wake up my mind and start the day on a positive, inspired note.

{8:00 am} Make Bed: Once I’ve got my meditation on or once it’s complete (depending on how I feel that day), I will get out of bed and make it.

{8:05 am} Dress: Once my bed is made, I like to change out of my pj’s and into my outfit for the day. My daily uniform is usually comfortable leggings and a utility blouse, tunic or light sweater. I’ll also pop on a pair of house shoes or slippers because my home office has hard wood floors and I don’t like when my feet are cold!

{8:15 am} Morning Hygiene: Once I’m dressed I start my morning hygiene washing my face, brushing my teeth etc. On some days this is pretty quick and on others I will take more time to put on makeup and do my hair.

Evening Routine

{11:00 pm} Refill Water Tumbler: The first thing I do when I am getting ready for bed is to refill my water tumbler and bring it upstairs to my bedroom. Usually I head upstairs to end my evening and prep for bed between 10:30 – 11pm depending on what I’ve done that evening. On weekends, however, this can vary.

{11:05 pm} Evening Hygiene: Once I’m upstairs, I will start my evening hygiene practice which includes taking a shower or bath, removing my makeup, and cleansing. I take my showers at night so I can relax, get into bed nice and clean, and fall asleep faster.

{11:30 pm} Self Care: Once I’m clean and in my robe, I like to do some sort of self-care activity before bed. This could be a home facial treatment, listening to a podcast or book on tape, or giving myself a face and neck massage.  (mask, cream, haircare)

{11:45 pm} Pajamas & Hair Prep: Once I’m done my self-care (or after a little while if I’ve turned on a book or podcast) I switch into my pajamas and prep my hair for bed. Since I have very long hair, I must either braid it or put it into a high bun on the top of my head to keep it tidy while I’m sleeping. If not, it makes it uncomfortable for me to sleep because my hair goes all the way down my back and makes it hard for me to move around and get comfortable.

{11:50 pm} Essential Oils & Crystals: Right before I get into bed I will turn on my essential oil diffuser and arrange some crystals on my bedside table. They are always on the side table, however, I like to make sure that everything is tidy and that the crystals aren’t being covered so I get the optimal affect of having them by my side as I sleep!

{12:00 am} ASMR Video & Eye Mask: I like to be in bed ready to sleep by no later than midnight. Once my oils are on and I’m in bed, I will put on a night mask to help me sleep as I am very sensitive to light, and if I need it (which I do most nights) I will turn on an ASMR video with my earbuds on to help me drift asleep.

  1. I have just recently (like three days ago recently) started using the miracle morning routine and so far I really like it! I wake up first thing in the morning and head into my living room to either meditate (if I have the time), or simply work on some breathing exercises to relax my body. Then depending on how much time I have, I will either simply do some stretches in my Pajamas or change into some comfortable clothes and go for a walk.

Next I usually head into my bathroom and repeat positive affirmations while I am going through my morning hygiene, thought granted at this point this is still a weak spot for me. This is the time when I change into whatever I am wearing that day, usually leggings and a sweater if I don’t have to work that day.

Finally I spend sometime in my bullet journal going over the days events and taking a few moments to write down something I am grateful for. Then I will read either until it is time for me to leave for work, or until I have finished a chapter of whatever I am reading.

Like I said this is still a pretty new routine, but I do find myself a lot more focused and energized since I have started it! Sadly at this point I don’t have much of a night time routine other than simply playing on the computer until I get tired and feeding my cats and rats before heading to bed. That is definitely something that needs to be worked on…

  2. Alexis, I was wondering what is the technology (that looks like marble) in your photo for this article. Is it a music player or a charge? I’d love to learn more. Thank you!

  3. I think these last two blog articles are my current favourites. I’m trying to change my morning routine to eliminate online surfing while eating breakfast and I think this may do it. My nighttime routine is getting better but there are some changes there I need to make too.

  4. Good morning, everyone. I’m basing my routine on the 28 days or so I am home alone. When hubby is home, my schedule is way off kilter.

Prefacing to say I am a morning person. When I wake up I hit the floor running. If I don’t, then I’m pretty much awash the rest of the day. Bob is not a morning person so if I don’t have done what I need by 8 a.m. when he’s home, I’m usually done for a good portion of the day.

I am usually up by 6:30 at the latest. I prefer 6. But if I’m awake at anytime after 5, then I’m awake for the day. I turn off the fan on the bedside table, make the bed and open the shades. Morning hygiene, pop a load of laundry in the washer on my way by, set the keurig to drip as I pass through the kitchen to my office to boot up the laptop I have ‘free’ bandwidth until 8 a.m. so I use this time for creative inspiration videos or webinar replays. Once my hot chocolate is made, I take that to the sofa in my office and snuggle under the blanket with the cats and my videos until 8 a.m. Then my day starts. HoneyB (beagle) and I have breakfast then he goes outside for a big chunk of the day while I get to work. Alexis has seen my daily schedule on my blog post. I read a book once that the reason highly proficient CEOs use the time blocked planners is because they equate their time to $$$. So while I do not do an hour by hour breakdown, I do have time zones in which I work through my day. This allows me to be productive without exhaustion by days end.

I try to stop work by 5. Eat dinner then do fiction writing until around 8 p.m. I’m usually in bed between 8:30 and 9;30. I play trivia games and watch House Hunters on hgtv (for book setting ideas) All lights are usually out and one of the cats is purring in my ear by 11.

I do want to begin incorporating altar time as well as treadmill or Wii time again. They are on my schedule but I’m settling into a new day job as well as my side-hustle right now so until I smooth out wrinkles, I’m not there. For now my exercise is getting my steps in every day so the CopperFit goes on my wrist first thing in the morning.

  5. I loved this post! I really enjoy reading about how people structure their morning and evening routines. I too like to shower at night and I also have long hair. Do you dry your hair before you braid it or put it in a bun for the night? I find it such a chore when I’m tired at the end of the day to do my hair.
